The Pirelli Cinturato™ P7, introduced in 1974, set a benchmark as a groundbreaking ultra-low-profile tire, boasting exceptional directional stability and grip. Its unmatched performance attributes made it the go-to tire for world-renowned car manufacturers, including Aston Martin, De Tomaso, Porsche, and Lamborghini, among others. Today, Pirelli continues to manufacture the Cinturato P7 to the highest standards, catering to both 15″ and 16″ wheels.

The 225/50 VR 15 variant of the P7 was notably adopted as original equipment (OE) by several classic Porsche models. These Porsches typically paired the 225/50 VR 15 P7 on the rear with a 205/50 R15 P7 on the front, or 225/50VR15 on the front matched it with 285/40 R15 P7 on the rear. The revered Lamborghini Countach also utilized the 225/50 R15 tires on its front, complemented by 345/35 R15 tires at the rear. De Tomaso Pantera variations featured the 225/50 R15 P7 on their front and the 285/50 VR 15 P7 on the back.

Specific models compatible with the 225/50R15 tire size include the Porsche 928 (1978-1982), the pre-1976 Porsche 911 Turbo, Lamborghini Countach, and Lancia Stratos. Notably, the 225/50R15 P7 carries a “Y” Speed rating, signifying it has been rigorously tested and can sustain speeds of up to 186 mph (300 km/h) for an hour, making the tire more than suitable for these sporting classics.

The 225/50R15 PIRELLI CINTURATO™ P7 N, while currently boasting a Y speed rating, originally only met the criteria for a V speed rating. To maintain historical accuracy, the tire’s sidewall prominently displays the ‘V’. However, its actual Y speed rating is subtly inscribed on the tire’s inner side.

A distinctive feature of many P7™ tires is the Porsche ‘N’ homologation. This endorsement indicates that Porsche has rigorously tested these tires with their cars, affirming them as the first choice of classic 225/50R15 tires for their sporting cars.
