165 R 400
When Michelin first developed radial tire technology in the ‘40s the 165SR400 was the first size. Michelin developed the X radial tire in conjunction with Citroen’s Traction Avant, and because the Traction was on 40 cm wheels the size 165SR400 was radial equivalent to the 130/140X40 bias ply that they originally fitted. As the advantages of the amazing new radial tire technology became apparent so many other car manufacturers started to fit 400mm wheels so they too could fit the 165SR400 Michelin X .
They were also fitted to cars such as the Lancia Aurelia & Flaminia and Alfa Romeo 1900 and 2600 with the 165 R 400 Michelin X.
